Middle Eastern Work

Living in this hemisphere, there is a certain mystique about all this things from the other side of our planet. I have not yet been able to explore these places for myself as raising a family takes priority just now. Drawing from my childhood, there was an Arabian influence even over here in little New Zealand in the 1960‘s. I remember twirling and spinning draped in scarves as my Mum played piano, hearing about Lawrence of Arabia and wondering how long it would be before the shoes that Mum wore with the turned up toes would fit me properly. Egypt……Ahhhhh….so hot and so very far away! A mysterious land steeped in history and extreme opposites of everything I live amongst.

My artwork inspired by the Middle East is all about capturing a moment in time and searching for an ambiguity in an other culture. I use only a monochromatic palette so that the work takes on a timeless quality, un -interfered by the confusing of colour
