Hawkes bay artist - Jo
Eagle
Jo Eagle is an artist who grew up in the Hawkes Bay town of Napier. She was surrounded by an artistic family who encouraged her creative tendencies from an early age. Jo’s mum, Betty, also a Hawkes Bay artist was well known for her skill with the palette, the piano, flower arranging and creating
outstanding clothing.
Jo’s own artistic ability has also included many fabric pieces ranging from ornate shoes, baby accessories, wall hangings, and bed covers to name but a few of her creations. Her three children were the most interestingly dressed in kindergarten, and beyond. Now Jo’s main focus is with the paintbrush.
Jo’s love of art is something she wishes to impart to others and upon successfully completing her Arts degree in 2004 she entered Teachers Training, and has taught art in several schools in Napier. Currently Jo is employed teaching art at the Napier Intermediate School.
As a Hawkes Bay artist Jo loves to promote the Bay and Napier in particular. With this in mind she invented a Hawkes Bay character, Captain
Hawk and his friend Lilith, who share adventures with a little dog called Wolfie. Many of these works incorporate Hawkes Bay landmarks, which include a number of Napier’s Art Deco buildings.
While Hawkes Bay is very important to Jo she is interested in exploring other subjects in paint, especially the exotic, the mysterious and the whimsical. Look forward to many more paintings as this Hawkes Bay artist explores her medium and reveals a new way of looking at life around us.
